Vascular endothelium and smooth muscle play important roles in regulating blood vessel tone and blood pressure. This video explains about the vascular endothelium and smooth muscle regulating functions which are mediated through vasoactive substances that are synthesized by endothelial cells. Imbalance between local synthesis of vasodilating substances such as nitric oxide and vasoconstricting substance endothelin I. Moreover, electrolyte imbalance such as high sodium level, low calcium and potassium levels are responsible for elevation in blood pressure.
