Today I received a question from one of you guys asking how to recreate this lead from an unreleased Fisher Track called " We FKN Love It"

Now the song has yet to be released by Fisher but hearing it; we can listen to how the leads in the track sound very squelchy and distorted.

To understand how to recreate this lead, we first need to talk about Resonance. Resonance is a parameter found on filters that emphasize the frequencies at the cutoff point of your filter.

It sounds like this on a lowpass filter and a highpass filter.

Resonance doesn't sound all that great, but the moment I start moving the cutoff on the filter, you can begin to recognize how used this sound was in the Brazzers Films.... haha.

No, in seriousness, it has a very funk sound when used with envelopes and Lfos. However, this sounds nothing like our Fisher track, so what gives?

Well, now we move on to the next step, Distortion. Distortion is an effect used heavily to get sounds to sound PHAT AS FCK!

When using a Filter with a very high resonance sweeping entering Distortion, we get this type of sound. Sounds very AcidFragisliticlicexpialidocious.

Finally, we have something that sounds very close! We have to use a modulation tool to move our filter for us. I prefer to use an LFO to dial this in as it's more flexible than broke college students. You know, because they are always free for anything :D

From here, we just set up the proper modulation and badabing; we have the K Mart version of the fisher lead! It's close enough, though :D

So how else can we use this knowledge?

Well, resonances can help in adding character to a sound.

An excellent example of this is the Deep House Bass.

When creating the Selected pack, I remember having issues trying to get the smack on the basslines.

In executing a traditional Deep House Bass, we need our FM Wavetable and a lowpass filter opening up. You can see how the bass doesn't smack or have grit. Adding a bit of Resonance to increase the volume on the cutoff point in the mids gives it that extra push. A lot more dynamic than going to Mars-like Elon Musk on your low-mids.

Finally, emphasizing movement of the filter on a sound is another use for Resonance. If you are a Dirty Bird fan, this is how you can create a lot of the quirky sound effects that sound rad when I'm higher than the Like counts on this video after you hit it :D.

Adding an LFO Again to our Cutoff we can get this sweet movement on the sound and finally just a sprinkle of Resonance to get it popping.

So In review we can use resonance to add character to sounds, created acid style sounds, and emphaize the movement of the filter.
