ELAINE STRITCH getting the final word in Rick McKay's film, BROADWAY: THE GOLDEN AGE. These are the closing credits to the film and I am posting them by popular demand as a result of all the emails and FB mail I have gotten asking about Elaine and the end of the film. And even though Elaine was, how shall I say . . . "difficult" in the filming and production, I still gave her the last word. Many people asked me why and my answer was always the same. "Because she is THAT good." For those of you who don't know what she is referring to, there is a famous line in one of her signature songs, "The Ladies Who Lunch," from Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY, where she asks, "Does anyone still wear a hat?"

A few years ago I ran into Elaine at an opening night on Broadway and she said, "Do you know how many more people stop me on the street and say that line to me now. I mean, they always did, but only a few - but since your movie they ALL do! And then they say, 'You're wearing a hat!' for Christ's sake. It's a pain in the ass, Rick. But, I want the last line in your new movie, too. When I explained that the credits are all out-takes so we don't know what will happen yet, she replied, "Well you PLAN the out-take you dopey bastard. JEE-sus Christ Rick!"

I'll drink to that.
