"Eirik Jarl" is a Norwegian folk song originally written and sung by the Norwegian folk singer Harald Foss. It details in poetic verse the sporting events held in Nidaros, modern day Trondheim, by Jarl Eirik Håkonsson who lived from the 960s - 1020s A.D. as well as those notables that partook such as Einar Tambarskjelve, an influential Norwegian noble and politician during the 11th century and Torgaut of Orkney, a man who was renowned for his ability to row.

The setting of the song is that of a grand gathering of men and women from the domains of Jarl Eirik Håkonsson, which encompassed Norway, Iceland, Shetland, and the Orkney Islands. Jarl Eirik ruled Norway until 1014 whereupon he left Norway to join forces with the Danish King Canute the Great to invade England. Their conquest of England was successful and Jarl Eirik became Earl of Northumbria ruling the entirety of the northern English kingdom until his death in the 1020s.

Harald Foss is a talented musician who has contributed much to the preservation of Norse and Norwegian history, the original version of the song can be found here:
