Pardy Minassian - "From Past to Present"

Описание к видео Pardy Minassian - "From Past to Present"

Here is a brief description about the materials used in the work:

- The old lady in the video is a survivor of Armenian Genocide. She is an interviewee from my father's collection of interviews of Armenian Genocide survivors.  The song that she is singing in the video is from her homeland located in Western Armenia. The song is almost forgotten and has never been published. All the musical materials used in the video is based on that song.

- The voices in the work consist of me and the old woman. All the other instrumental parts are solely recorded with the guitar (even the church bell and the chaotic parts).

- The entire work is based on pomegranate scenes, which is the symbol of the Armenian nation. We usually symbolize the spread Armenian diaspora all over the world to the seeds of a pomegranate.

- All the photos within the work are from my father’s collection. Some of them have also never been published. Most of them are pictures of regions near to the town that this old lady lived in.

My main idea was concentrating on the Genocide theme, representing this love song in a complete different mood. In other words, this should be a song that we should sing regularly. Instead, we remember it in a chaotic form because of a Genocide.

The survivor's (interviewee's) name is Arshalouys Dimijian Dirarian. Born in Arapgir (in Western Armenia) in 1910, died in 2002 in Aleppo, Syria.
Interviewed by my father Mihran Minassian in 1993 in Aleppo, Syria.
