GORDON RIVER CRUISE in Strahan, Tasmania | UNESCO World Heritage Area | Tassie travel vlog #11

An incredible day spent doing a Gordon River Cruise in Strahan, Tasmania with Gordon River Cruises. We spent 6 hours in the UNESCO World Heritage Area and it was absolutely stunning.

Situated on Tasmania's West Coast, the cruise departed from Strahan aboard the Spirit of the Wild, a $9 million custom boat. It first took us out to Hells Gate which is a very narrow and dangerous passage from the ocean into Macquarie Harbour. We drove through and got a close look at the lighthouses that help boats navigate their way through.

Then we entered the Gordon River where the water was so still, it literally looked like glass. The reflections on the water looked as though it was a mirror, not water. We were so lucky to have great weather and the blue skies made the views even more incredible. We drove down the river silently with the electric motor going. We were able to get off the boat at Heritage Landing and walk through the ancient forests.

We then stopped at Sarah Island, one of the harshest convict settlements in Australia. It was here that they built ships from Huon Pine and it became one of the largest ship building yards in Australia.

The Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park is somewhere I would love to spend more time exploring!
