Thanks to a quality inspector's label within, dated 8th December 1913, I'm pleased to announce that my 'Marathon Gramophone' is 111 years old today. Recorded 14th June 1912 Zona Vevey (1881-1953) sings 'I Want To Be Your Nightingale' Unlike Marie Lloyd or Florrie Forde, who appealed to the more raucous audiences of the day, Zona sang dainty romantic ditties, composed & accompanied by her bandleader husband Max Erard. May my Marathon Gramophone sing like a nightingale for many years to come!
