George Tomsco, legendary lead guitarist of The Fireballs, performs “Torquay” with all-star band 3 Balls of Fire, live at Record Surplus in Los Angeles on August 11, 2016. George Tomsco’s distinctive guitar work influenced countless instrumental and surf guitar bands in the '60s and beyond. With the Fireballs he burst onto the rock and roll scene with a top 40 single “Torquay” in 1959 followed by “Bulldog” in 1960. Teamed with a new vocalist, Jimmy Gilmer, the Fireballs earned more hits including "Sugar Shack", which became number one on the Billboard charts and was the largest selling single of 1963, and “Bottle of Wine” in 1967.

Accompanying George Tomsco is 3 Balls of Fire, featuring on bass “Burnin" Mike Vernon, on guitar Paul Johnson of The Bel-Airs and The Duo-tones (who wrote surf guitar classics “Mr. Moto”, “Squad Car” and “Kamakaze”), plus on drums Marty Tippens of Insect Surfers.

Known as “the last record store”, Record Surplus has been a top spot in Los Angeles to find great music and collectible vinyl since 1985. Record Surplus is one of the largest independent record stores on the West Coast of the U.S.A., stocking over 50,000 new and used vinyl records of all genres plus a wide selection of used CDs and DVDs.
