Back in the day, before 1968, to be precise, the Petitcodiac River was renowned for housing one of the world's most magnificent tidal bores. These were not regular tidal bores but ranged from 1 to 2 metres in height. They surged with incredible force, moving at exhilarating speeds of 5 to 13 kilometres per hour. However, constructing a causeway in 1968 dramatically altered the river's natural course and demeanor, diminishing the tidal bore's size.

But nature has its ways of restoring itself. With the causeway gates opened in April 2010, the Petitcodiac began its journey of rejuvenation. Today, it's self-healing, flushing out the ocean silts and gradually welcoming back its grand tidal bore to its former glory.
