War-X has been on my list of must-do races, and boy, did it live up to the hype! This one had it all: explosions, guns, creative and challenging obstacles, freezing cold water, amazing people, a giant American flag water slide, and oh yeah, a FLAME THROWER.
Warning: It is extremely painful watching myself go through these obstacles. I took so long on them that it made me learn how to add chapters to this video so people could skip ahead to avoid the cringe that is my obstacle skills. Being a skinny Florida guy, starting a race where the temps are in the 30s was rough, but going into the water destroyed me. My grip was done and I was shivering a LOT. I was extremely sloppy on the first grip obstacle and fell, and waited way too long to try again. I spent about 15 minutes on the Eliminator rig, and feel like I may have had the worst successful completion of that obstacle. But it was successful somehow, so I'll take it! They had 3 obstacles in which you gained a wristband, and I got all three, but it wasn't pretty.
The bright side of it all? After the Eliminator rig, my wife caught up with me and we were able to finish the second half of the race together. We've never done that before unless it was a fun lap after racing, so I had a great time with her.
Overall, War-X was a great experience, even though I was freezing. Put in on the list of races you must do. We will definitely be back to do it again!
