A look around what's left of West Derby Railway Station in Liverpool. The station was built by the Cheshire Lines Committee in 1879 and served the West Derby area until 1960 for passengers and 1964 for goods.

Services connected West Derby with Liverpool, Manchester and Southport. The station faced stiff competition from trams, which led to its services being cut quite early on. CLC clearly has high hopes for the line, putting in provision to quadruple the line if needed.

The actual line remained open until 1975 for freight, and there was plans to reopen the line as part of the Merseyrail network.

When these were abandoned, the trackbed was made into the Liverpool Loopline path. The extensive remains of West Derby becoming a feature with both platforms surviving, and the station building being now in retail and residential use. The former goods yard has now been built over.
