Steambent or "solid" snare drums have been around for almost 100 years. Why do players and collectors alike covet these cool pieces? Find out and hear three different examples of solid snares in this video. Here are the three drums we explore today:

- 14x7" Slingerland Radio King (Refinished by Mike Smith of North Chicago, IL)
- 14x5.5" Slingerland Radio King (in Red Sparkle Finish)
- 14x7" Leedy Snare Drum (Overhauled by MKE Drum Co.)

These vintage drums are great, and people still build like this today. Craviotto Drums, founded by Johnny Craviotto, are wonderful drums that spawned from the work of a man who built drums for DW Drums and later under the Solid Drum Company brand. Doc Sweeney Drums makes some incredible solid drums, and I believe they're sourcing their shells from a really neat operation in the Pacific Northwest called Cask Drum Craft, who are worth a peek too. Smaller builders like Gary Posey and Summit Drums are carrying on the craft too! Each brand and builder bring something a little different to the table, just like the brands of yesteryear. And it's the tiny differences that get me excited to hit every single snare drum I find!

I used Turkish Cymbals 15" Millennium Hi Hats, 20 and 22" Meta Brilliant Crashes, and a 22" Millennium Ride in this video.

Some of the music I played drums to in this video comes from my drumless tracks, available at https://slouxrecordingco.bandcamp.com/ .
