Ep. 192: 8 WAYS TO SAY "I LOVE YOU" WITH MOSAIC ART - PART 5
This is the fifth of eight videos showing different Valentine's Day mosaic ideas!
Welcome to my studio! As a flower lover, I think these floral minis are like little jewels of beauty and a wonderful way to say "I love you" with mosaic art.

The mini frames were purchased from Michael's. Backgrounds were glued on with Weldbond adhesive. Thinset is the adhesive I used to attach the various vases. I used E6000 for beads and small bits and Weldbond for bigger pieces and petals.

0:14 The video starts with a couple of floral minis that I already made. They were so beautiful, that I went a little nuts and bought a bunch more to make! This was in July of 2023, just before I started The Landscape of Dunwoody mosaic.
0:44 I've pulled some tesserae for the backgrounds, mostly neutrals with a little bit of color here and there.
1:27 Flashback to when my workbench was covered in other projects from last summer.
2:22 I start making the backgrounds. They come together so quickly, thanks to my little bit of planning!
4:08 I have all my minis layed out and I start grouting in a very organized way. Again, this process was quick because these are so small!
5:18 FAST FORWARD! It is now the end of January 2024. I've barely touched these minis! I've selected all the vases and only started on one.
6:36 Using thinset in a baggie, I pipe it carefully on the backs of the vases. I want to build it up in areas where the vases are tippy because the background is uneven, but I don't want it to show. I can feel when there is good contact when I seat the piece.
8:44 I want to start by finishing the red roses. There are already 8, so I only need 4 more plus some leaves and beads. The tiny petals are little curved pieces shaped like fingernail clippings that curve around the center of each rose. The E6000 is a bit stringy, so I have to make sure it doesn't leave a mess.
12:16 I start on the next one, which has pink roses, frit balls and millefiori. The leaves are a nice spring green which I love with pink! I use bits of irridized glass for extra sparkle!
13:25 I show what the next two will be and get started on the peach roses. I am just cranking these little beauties out! I'm so happy the backgrounds were done already!
14:35 Time to change it up! I was inspired by one of my students, and worn out from making roses so this is the perfect solution. The little petals take lots of nipping, but they look so amazing! Worth it! I make an inventory of pieces and use Weldbond to adhere them. When I'm done it looks matchy-matchy.
16:22 My next one will have white flowers with pearl and faceted beads cut in half for the centers. I use E6000 to hold the beads as they are not perfectly flat on the back.
17:19 Executive decision: The matchy-matchy blue floral needs a bit of contrast and I bring it on by adding some red beads to give the flowers a bit of definition.
17:40 They looks so great together! I'm excited about these beautiful little jewels! I show them a few different ways. I love how unique they all are! Also - I can't pick a favorite! My husband asked if he could buy one and give it to me. Silly man.

That's Putting It Together Ep. 192. Thanks for watching! See you next time.
