Ep. 192 1/2 BONUS: 8 WAYS TO SAY "I LOVE YOU" WITH MOSAIC ART - PART 6
This is the sixth of eight videos showing different Valentine's Day mosaic ideas!
Welcome to my studio! You can make a lovely floral like this after a trip to the thrift shop.

0:20 For Part 6 I am using a clear glass self standing frame I found at a thrift shop. I paid $1 for it. And I am going to use ceramic from plates to make some loose flowers with a bow.
0:46 I have some new Seabell Ceramic Scissors I'm going to try out. Some of my plates came from a thrift shop, and one is my own broken plate. The ceramic scissors work really well on these thin plates. They are very easy to use so far.
2:00 I nip as close as I can to the actual flower, then I take it to the grinder (not shown) to smooth out the edges.
2:20 Someone gave me a bag of pre-cut butterflies that I might use as well.
2:46 I get after the pink and green, cutting long thin pieces for the stems and ribbon.
3:00 I am going to dry lay the design on a 3"x5" index card and then transfer the pieces once my adhesive is in place. The background is not going to be cut until the main design is in place.
4:20 I pipe thinset onto the frame and smooth it out with an Italian spatula. Then I start adding the pre-cut pieces, making sure to seat each piece as I go.
5:45 I didn't manage to get all the pieces in before the thinset has skinned over! So for these last few pieces, I will remove the thinset and add fresh thinset to the backs of the pieces to hold them in place.
6:43 I used thinset so the back would be nice and clean on the back. I also used it to accomodate the different thicknesses of material and make it more even on the front. I will decide whether or not to layer pieces on top once it is grouted.
7:20 I grout with sanded GROUT (not thinset). I spread it with my ceramic tool, and then clean with a brush, shop towels, cotton rags and a pick.
8:19 Using E6000, I layer a few roses and 1/2 beads on top, being super careful to work cleanly.
9:16 This one is very sweet and pretty!
