In this video, we will learn all about Noun Phrases.

What is a Noun Phrase?
A noun phrase is made of two words. Noun + Phrase and acts as a Noun in the sentence.

Formation of a Noun Phrase.
Structure: Pre-Modifiers + Noun + Post Modifiers

Pre-Modifier could be: Determiners, Numbers, or Adjective
And Post Modifiers could be: Prepositional Phrase, Gerunds, Infinitive, Relative clause

Based on this structure Noun Phrase could be of three types:
1. Pre-Modifier + Noun:
2. Noun + Post Modifiers:
3. Pre-Modifier + Noun + Post Modifiers.

Four different ways in which a Noun phrase could be used in a Sentence.
1. It can act as a Subject in the Sentence.
2. It can act as an Object in the Sentence which includes an object to a verb, an object to a preposition, or an indirect object.
3. It can act as a Subject Complement in the Sentence.
4. It can act as a Case in Apposition in the Sentence.

Exercise:
1. The colourful parrot is flying fast.
2. I want a new laptop.
3. Ajay is an amazing painter.
4. Timothy, their youngest child, is very musical.

Answers:
1. 'The colourful parrot' : As a Subject.
2. 'a new laptop': As an Object
3. 'an amazing painter': As a Subject Complement
4. 'their youngest child' : Case is Apposition
