Post emergence Herbicides for Spring Maize (Corn) | Crop Reformer

Описание к видео Post emergence Herbicides for Spring Maize (Corn) | Crop Reformer

In grain production, spring planted maize crop contributes more than autumn crop in Punjab. Ideal time of spring planted crop is from mid of January to mid of February but owing to the standing crop of potato, the loin share of its acreage is planted from mid of February to mid of March or even late. Most of the winter weeds like Phalaris miner (Dumbi sittee), Chenopodium (Krund & Bathu), Melilotus , Medicago species (Senji , Maina) and summer perennial weeds like Cyperus rotundus (Mork or Deela) germinate altogether in spring season maize. In case of too late sowing, Trianthema portulacastrum (Itsit) and Dactyloctenum aegyptium (Madhana ghas) also render severe competition. Without proper weed management strategy, potential production of spring maize is very hard to achieve.
Herbicides are playing the most important role in weed management in maize crop. In the previous videos, we guided about the use of pre emergence and more frequently used formulations of mesotrione plus atrazine herbicides. There is a weakness in mesotrione plus atrazine based formulations. These formulations can not fully address Deela (Cyperus rotundus), which inflicts heavy yield loosed to spring maize in many cases. In this video, we have facilitated the growers by providing the most recent information about the use of more perfect and broad spectrum weedicides based on halosulfuron plus mesotrione plus atrazine. Comparative potency of important products has also been evaluated so that farmers may decide batter option for the selection of proper herbicide. The shared information is several years research data based in which bio efficacy of selected herbicides on individual weeds was accomplished carefully.
We have suggested the post emergence spray of different formulations of mesotrione plus atrazine plus halosulfuron viz. Lumax ( Suncrop), Maxpro (Evyol group), Guru super or Landmaster (4-B). All these are effective against most of the grassy weeds, broad leaved and Deela (Cyperus rotundus). Also weakness of these herbicides has also been highlighted. That is that owing to the inclusion of halosulfuron, they renders hidden phytotoxic effect on maize. However, they be used more safely in the sugarcane crop.
