Ep 14 . Sailing Soraya - We cross the Narrows and explore GREAT KEPPEL ISLAND

Our journey on ‪@sailingsoraya‬ today starts in the Queensland Port of Gladstone. We are heading for the Keppel Islands!

There are 2 ways to get to get there... Sail offshore around the outside of Curtis Island, or the way we have chosen…the inshore route known as going through “the narrows”.

There is one major obstacle with our plan. It's so shallow that cattle can be walked across the waterway in low tide. Our only chance is to sail across this section is at the highest tide… so timing is everything for us today!

Fortunately we time it well. We sail across safely.. and anchor at the beautiful Great Keppel Island.

There are 18 Islands in the Keppel Group, with Great Keppel Island being the largest. The island is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, and has 17 stunning beaches to explore.

In our video we explore this magic island, spearfish for lunch, collect fresh oysters off the rocks, and hike to a lighthouse with an incredible view.
