Buses at Chadstone; Australia's largest shopping centre - Melbourne Transport

In this video we see some buses at Chadstone Shopping Centre. Situated in Melbourne's south east it's Australia's largest shopping centre with 530 stores and 211,929m2 of floor space. It's also a major transport hub in the area, being served by 14 bus routes, including Smartbus routes 900 and 903.

We see buses from a variety of operators. This includeds CDC Melbourne (Oakleigh) who operates the routes that used to be owned by Driver Bus Lines (routes 612 and 623 - 626). As a result we see their fleet of exquisite ex-Driver buses, including Denning low floors, Irisbus/Iveco Metro's and Volvo B10BLE's, although we also see some of their more modern conventional buses including Volvo B7RLE's.

We also see Ventura buses who operates routes 742, 767, 800, 802, 804, 822 and 862 through Chadstone. We see some of their older route buses including Mercedes Benz O405NH's, Scania L94UB's, and in an interesting sighting; their only Volvo B7L (bus #51). We also see some of their more modern buses, including Volvo B7RLE's and Scania K310UB's.

CDC Melbourne and Ventura also operate Smartbus route 900 from Caulfield to Rowville; one of the few routes in Melbourne to be shared with multiple operators. On this route we also see some of CDC's and Ventura's Mercedes Benz O500LE's.

We also see Transdev buses on Smartbus route 903; Melbourne's busiest bus route. We see some of their typical Scania K230UB buses but also some of their more recent Scania K310UB's.

Chadstone's modern bus interchange opened on the 10th August 2015 as part of the shopping centre's most recent redevelopment, and consolidated the two old interchanges into an large transport hub. With large fabric canopies, plenty of seating, CCTV, extensive landscaping and heating (yes, outdoor heating!) it's one of the more substantial bus interchanges in Melbourne. It's a lot better than a lot of other shopping centre bus interchanges in Melbourne where they place basic bus shelters and call it a day. Great job Chadstone for not treating your bus commuters with contempt.
