Clinical Psychologist, Oriane Macfarlane of Well Mind & Body Psychology takes you through a 9min ACT based meditation called Leaves on a stream — This meditation is one exercise to help you practice cognitive defusion, which can help to soften the attachment you have with your thoughts, and therefore allowing greater choice in your actions related to your values.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness based treatment approach that explores how our emotions, thoughts, and beliefs can take us away from leading a satisfying life based on our individual values.

Through the practice of mindfulness meditation we can learn to stay present in our here and now, and to accept our feelings, situations, and ultimately ourselves.

There are 6 core principles of ACT - cognitive defusion is one of them, acceptance, being in the present moment, observing the self, values, and committed action.
