Constancio de Guzman - Bayan Ko "My Country" (arr. Redentor Romero for Violin and Piano)

Bronte Ficek (Violin)

------------------
Bayan Ko is a Kundiman for Voice an Piano composed by Constancio de Guzman with words by Jose Corazon de Jesus, who translated the original Spanish lyrics by José Alejandrino into Tagalog. The song speaks about the author's country suffering and being abused by foreign forces and that the author wishes for his country to be free.
The original Spanish lyrics were written in the early 20th century who expressed opposition to the newly established American Occupation of the Philippines. Three decades later, Jose Corazon de Jesus translated the lyrics into Tagalog and Constancio de Guzman set it to music. It was this version that became popular, especially as one of the protest songs of the people against Martial Law imposed by then president Ferdinand Marcos during the 1970s-80s.
