Welcome to the Great Hall of Winterfell and to Westeros finally!

House of the Dragon Season 2 is just about to wrap up, so today we’ll be focusing on the HBO-sanctioned beverages released for House of the Dragon and determining which of the wines would pair best with the two Game of Thrones cookbooks that have been released (although a raven did tell me there is a third on the way this October - also, turns out there was some wine made by Wolf Blass and Treasury Wine Estates that I missed in my research, it was a Cabernet Shiraz called Fire & Blood). I’ve really been enjoying season 2 so far; this isn’t a review of the show itself so no worries about spoilers here. We’ll specifically be focusing on the cider and wines produced by Vintage Wine Estates and Seven Kingdoms Cellars; a California Chardonnay, an Oregon Pinot Noir, a California Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Lodi Red Blend that we'll taste. I would have preferred some more unique naming conventions (it wouldn't be impossible to do so and still remain in the good graces of the TTB), but alas.

There were also some beers brewed by and released in partnership with Mikkeller of Denmark but there’s absolutely no shot I can get those or the cider so I’ll just provide a brief overview of them before we start pouring the wines. They released 4 beers in Europe for the debut of the first season of House of the Dragon. Named after Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen’s respective mounts, the first two releases were Syrax and Caraxes, followed by Syrax Rises and Caraxes Rises.

Subscribe for Part 2 where I will turn the four wines tasted into Hippocras, Medieval and Southron Mulled Wines, and Myrish Firewine! We'll also do some Honey-Sweetened Wine, but that will require some non-House of the Dragon branded wines as none of them really fit the bill.
