The practice of sinking involves using the inherent strength within oneself, letting it distribute throughout the body, not relying on external force; when the body's pressure is relaxed, the strength disperses into the fascia, this is the Tai Chi method of training fascia. The progress in tendon strength is therefore slower, hence the saying 'Tai Chi, ten years without going outside'; for those entering the path through martial arts, the ultimate goal is to let go of tendon strength, practitioners of the Dao do not need tendon strength training, nor do Daoist sword practitioners need to train muscular strength; the training of martial arts and Dao should be clearly distinguished.
The method of training tendons in Tai Chi, involving sinking force and relaxation, allows the pressure to spread into the fascia, crucial for entering the Dao through martial arts.
