“Cartoon Land Gone Bad! Whilst publishing the underground comic Jack Deebs has unwittingly created a parallel universe inhabited by cartoon characters known as DOODLES. You are transported into COOL WORLD and seduced, through engaging messages, by the Doodle camp… HOLLI. Visual jokes and gags punctuate your adventure as you hop to and fro between reality and COOL WORLD. But Holli’s dream is to shed her Doodle identity… to become a real woman - with a real interest in Jack! A DREAM THAT COULD DESTROY BOTH WORLDS!”

Another movie based game from Ocean software but one that's had some effort put into it. The gameplay can be initially confusing but makes sense once it clicks. Reading the manual does help so that you know what is going on with the status bar. Much better presented than the Sleepwalker conversion to the C64.

There are 8 levels which take place across 4 locations from the film. The House, The School, The Comic Shop and The Ocean Casino. In each location, the Doodles will try to enter the portal to the real world. There are usually 2 portals so it is difficult to defend them both. Once on the other side they will attempt to bring objects through to cool world. The objects are indicated by the Blue boxes on the status bar. The red bar indicated how many doodles are in the real world. If these two bars are allowed to fill, a cosmic imbalance will occur and the Danger meter will start counting down. If its counts down to zero and imbalance has occurred and you lose a life and restart the level. In order to stop this you also need to travel to the real world and eliminate any doodles there before returning to cool world and sending back any objects that made it through thus maintaining the balance. Simple!!!

In order to destroy the Doodles, you simply shoot them and suck the ink blobs back into your pen. Each one collected lowered the level timer by one second. Or you can shoot the ink blobs for a random bonus to your lives, energy, score or temporary invulnerability. If you ignore the blob they will become Nickel Baiters and shoot at you. The map is very useful to see where doodles and objects are which helps when you need to intercept a doodle trying to send an object through the portal.

Overall the game is well presented and the gameplay is ok although it feels a bit fast and overly hectic at times. It’s all too easy to run into or onto an enemy and insta kill you. The boss fight at the very end was a little annoying as it can be difficult to line up the shots while Holli can just kiss you to death from range. Also, its quite hard to tell that the boss is holli as its not as well defined as it could have been being mostly white! (yes I know she is in the film and in the game we only saw her in the intro) I’d have expected something nearer to the yellow Amiga sprite.
