Seascale and Sellafield Stations - Cumbrian Coast Line (18th October 2022)

Hello Everyone, I am visiting another 2 stations along the Cumbrian coast line in this video. My journey begins at the Victorian coastal resort of Seascale. The history of the town stretches back to the Vikings but it was the arrival of the railway in 1849 that opened up this beautiful area to visitors from far and wide. Seascale is famous for its sandy beaches and the railway runs along the coastline between the beach and the low cliffs. Much of the Victorian charm remains including the wooden jetty which was reinstated for the new millennium. The second part of the video comes from nearby Sellafield Station. The railway arrived in 1850 and today it is a busy freight location because much of the nuclear waste for Sellafield’s nuclear fuel reprocessing plant arrives by train. The station is at the end of the single line section from Whitehaven which is operated using the electric key token system. The station configuration at Sellafield is unusual in that the up-line is bi-directional through the station and has platform faces on both sides. This allows trains from the south to terminate and turn back without having to enter the single-line section to St Bees. I hope you enjoy the video.
