廈門市，別稱鷺島，簡稱廈或鷺，位於福建省東南部。是中國東南沿海重要的中心城市、最早對外開放的四個經濟特區之一，亦屬計劃單列市及副省級城市。廈門市和泉州市、漳州市接壤，與金門縣隔海對望，是由廈門島、鼓浪嶼等島與海滄、集美、同安、翔安等沿海地區組成的海灣型城市。
廈門市是中國著名的僑鄉、亞洲重要的交通樞紐：廈門港為中國第7大、世界第13大貨櫃港口，廈門高崎國際機場為中國第6大出入境空港。此外，廈門是著名的風景旅遊城市，有「城在海上，海在城中」的美譽，著名景點有鼓浪嶼、萬石山、集美學村、南普陀寺、廈門大學等。
西晉太康三年（282年），始立同安縣，其轄境基本上包括現今的廈門市和金門縣。
8世紀末，今廈門島被稱為“新城”，至9世紀中葉，因島上農稻盛產碩穗，故地理上改稱"嘉禾嶼"、行政上改稱“嘉禾裡”，隸屬同安縣。
元世祖至元十八年（1281年）十一月，澎湖列島正式設立澎湖巡檢司，隸屬福建同安縣，使澎湖早於台灣本島400年納入中國版圖。

沙茶醬，是流行於台灣、中國大陸閩南與粵東地區的一種醬料，源自東南亞的花生烤肉醬（沙嗲醬Satay），正確讀音為南方方言“sa-te”。
在多年發展下，沙茶醬與沙嗲醬的配方、用法已經截然不同，即便同為沙茶醬，各地版本也有差異，清單如下：
南洋沙嗲：稠膏狀，辣中帶甜，花生較多。
潮汕沙茶醬：顆粒細，花生味濃，鹹中帶甜的花生醬。
福建沙茶醬：蝦味強偏辣。
台灣沙茶醬：顆粒粗，扁魚味強，鹹鮮帶甜、不含花生。
儘管沙茶醬鮮香可口，但成分多為辛燥類食材以及油脂，食用時宜酌量。氣候炎熱的華南地區尤需留意，吃太多容易上火。

Shacha sauce is a sauce popular in Taiwan, southern Fujian and eastern Guangdong in mainland China. It originated from the peanut barbecue sauce (Satay) in Southeast Asia. The correct pronunciation is "sa-te" in the southern dialect.
After years of development, the recipes and usage of shacha sauce and satay sauce have become completely different. Even if they are both shacha sauces, there are differences in different versions in different places. The list is as follows:
Nanyang satay: thick paste, spicy and sweet, with more peanuts.
Chaoshan shacha sauce: fine grains, strong peanut flavor, salty and sweet peanut sauce.
