A man wants to know why we can’t seem to access shared consciousness. For example, he is aware of his own pain, but others can’t access that experience, and he can’t access theirs.

Rupert says: ‘Because you cannot know what another person is experiencing, you presume that the awareness with which you know your experience and the awareness with which they know their experience must be separate. That’s like presuming that, because you can’t see the contents of your kitchen in London, the space in which your kitchen appears must be different from the space in the room we are in now.’

‘You are conflating the contents of awareness with awareness itself. You presume that awareness must share the limitations of your private thoughts and feelings. But just as the space in your kitchen is the same space as this room, the awareness with which each of us knows our experience is the same awareness. Start with your direct experience – the experience that consciousness is unlimited – rather than looking for proof that it is infinite.’
