Описание к видео Life in Barawa from 1941 | Told by the Elders

In this video, Mzele Mardadi Kulatein and Muhammad Sheikh Rufai narrates to us how life was in Barawa from 1941 and onwards. Mardadi explores his childhood, the social affairs, their teachers at that time and the administration. Their perspective of their childhood in contrast to present day Barawa is riveting at the very least, the emphasis on unity and togetherness of the integrated community at that time is mentioned in great length, the past can always be seen as a lesson for today.

Muhammad Sheikh Rufai who currently resides in Manchester, UK, was once seen as the community leader for the Bravanese. At a time when the Bravanese community came to UK as refugees fleeing war in Somalia, he was amongst the well learned who assisted his community in settling down with life in the UK. He helped with translation, documentation, visa issues, housing and many others.
