What a preen gland is and what your bird uses it for - feather preening

Описание к видео What a preen gland is and what your bird uses it for - feather preening

Some birds, but not all have what’s called a preen gland or sometimes referred to a oil gland or uropygial gland.
Birds like Ringneck parrots, Alexandrine parrots, budgies, conures, lovebirds, Quaker parrots just to name a few have this preen gland.
It is located where the base tail feathers begin and looks like a small raised bump or nipple.
Chances are you will not see it unless your bird is rubbing in that area to preen and the oil gland is exposed.
Your bird will rub his beak on this oil gland and spread it all over his body and feathers. Your bird will do this a couple times a day.
If you ever notice your bird has stopped preening all together for awhile or your bird is over preening his feathers constantly, please contact your -
