In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 5 mile circular walk from Sutton Poyntz – which is located 5 miles South of Dorchester & 4 miles North of Weymouth. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.

I parked my car at the Northern end of Sutton Poyntz and started my walk with a quick wander through the village, passing by The Springhead pub, the delightful mill pond and Sutton Mill.

My route then took me Eastwards along a footpath towards the village of Osmington – basically following the course of the River Jordan. Along the way I had some fantastic views North to the iconic Osmington White horse, carved out up on the side of White Horse Hill.

At Osmington, I joined the South Dorset Ridgeway and headed North up to the top of White Horse Hill.

There were some great views to enjoy at the top, looking over to Weymouth Bay and the Isle of Portland. Now on the Hardy Way, I headed Westwards, around the top of Spring Bottom and across West Hill to my next destination – the Iron Age Hillfort at Chalbury.

Following a footpath around the bottom of the hillfort, I started my return leg, Eastwards, back to Sutton Poyntz.

My final destination was the Springhead pub in the village.
