Tuesdays for Teachers Episode 5 - Respectful redirection of behaviour

Описание к видео Tuesdays for Teachers Episode 5 - Respectful redirection of behaviour

✨️Tuesdays for Teachers ✨️
Let’s look at respectful redirection of behaviour! 🧑‍🏫

🤔 We often see off-task or challenging behaviour in our classrooms - a student talking out of turn, being irresponsible with materials and equipment, disturbing others, and more.

⚠️ Our immediate response might be raising our voice, scolding them or even some form of punishment. This might be effective in the moment, but it does not work in the long run and can even damage our relationship with our students.

📌 Let’s also keep in mind that neurodivergent students tend to have negative experiences in schools, and may often feel singled out and judged for their behaviour.

🌟 Respectful redirection is a more compassionate and effective alternative. It means gently guiding students back to the desired behaviour with calm, clear and immediate redirection.

👀 Here are some ways to do that:
- Redirecting verbally with a clear explanation
- Redirecting using non-verbal cues
- Redirecting student’s attention to a positive example
- Responding with positive feedback

🌈 Let’s create a positive and inclusive learning environment for our students!

🗓️ Stay tuned for our next episode of Tuesdays for Teachers next week!
