Assessing resilience of important recreational fish species to extreme events in Texas -Ana Silverio

Описание к видео Assessing resilience of important recreational fish species to extreme events in Texas -Ana Silverio

Focusing on coastal fisheries and Ana's journey into marine science, this talk will also focus on her current M.S work. For her master’s work, Ana is using long-term independent and dependent fisheries catch data from Texas Parks and Wildlife coupled with quantitative tools to study how extreme events like hurricanes, freezes and pandemics affect coastal recreational fish populations along the Texas Gulf Coast. Using modeling strategies to assess the resilience and recovery of four coastal fish species following different types of extreme events, she hopes to improve current management strategies under a changing world.

Ana Silverio (she/her/ella) is an M.S student in the Quantitative Marine Ecology lab at the University of New Hampshire studying coastal fisheries and extreme events. She received her B.S in Biology with a concentration in Marine and Freshwater Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2020. During her time at UT Austin her research focused on age and growth studies of the red drum fishery off the Texas Gulf Coast. Most of Ana's research interests are in fisheries science, fisheries management, recreational fisheries and conservation.

Rock Talk #6, 2023 Season
Recorded: July 11, 2023

About Rock Talks
Our Rock Talk Seminar Series is a long-standing and well-loved tradition at SML. Historically, faculty members and guest speakers would gather with students on Appledore Island's rocky shoreline (giving the Rock Talk series its name) to present on a wide range of topics related to natural history, ecology, biology, and more. To stay connected with our community following the pandemic, we transitioned our Rock Talks online and have featured guest speakers from across the world. On our channel, you will find recordings from past seminars.

Please note: All Rock Talks begin at 8pm on Tuesdays for the 2023 season. You must register for the live presentations ahead of time, and all registration links will be shared on our website. We look forward to seeing you at our next Rock Talk!
