Do we work too much?

I'm Andres Acevedo and this is The Market Exit. 4 years ago, I left my traditional law firm career to become a self-employed lawyer. I was looking forward to taking control of my time, to become my own boss. But lately I’ve asked myself: what type of boss have I been to myself? Despite my initial vision of a flexible work life, I’ve found myself following a surprisingly standard work schedule and I’ve been pretty hard on myself. So I decided to look into where my inner boss got this work ethic from – and here’s what I learned.

I talk about Max Weber, Aristotle, the Catholic Church, Oprah Winfrey. I explain the traditional work ethic and I compare it with the protestant work ethic. The quote from Roland Paulsen is translated by me from Swedish.
