The "dǐngtóu xuán"頂頭懸" sign of Taijiquan comes from Wang Zongyue's " The Thirteen Postural Signs Song 王宗岳《十三勢歌訣》": "The body is as light as if the head was hanging in the air". The head's feeling of dǐngtóu xuán"頂頭懸 is interpreted as the head has the feeling as if it was hanging in the air and this gives the taiji practitioner the feeling of weightlessness, called mǎn shēn qīng lì 滿身輕利. This feeling of weightlessness is not the result of an act of balance, this practice of balance is fully explained in Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head-ca....
The "dǐngtóu xuán"頂頭懸" sign usually appears simultaneously with the qì tiē bèi氣貼背 sign, which means that the part below the umbilicus sticks towards the spine. For details, please see my Amazon Kindle book, Acquiring the CranioSacral Postural Reflex of Tai Chi for Longevity and Enlightenment

Introduction of this book: The abdominal Dantian is the most essential acquired physical feature for all advanced techniques in Tai Chi and meditation. A special sign, called 氣貼背qi tie bei was described by Master Wang 王宗岳 Wángzōngyuè(1771~1853 by estimation). This sign indicates the strong suction of your Dantian. This is essential for the emergence of a new mode of slow breathing, called Taixi 胎息 Embryonic Respiration, which is the gate to advancement into Samadhi and rejuvenation. The author has an innovative explanation for its usage by the Daoists and the Tibetan Buddhists. Also, its role in the processes of 煉精化氣 (Liàn jīng huà qì) the sublimation of 精jing into 氣qi and 交而不泄Jiāo ér bù xiè, meaning having an orgasm without semen ejaculation are explained medically.
