NatGeo Trip Planner 2002 on WinME (VBox)

It's time to hit the road again in that 1980's Caprice Classic that gets crappy fuel economy. That IT work takes one from coast to coast. That ThinkPad is tagging along as well, because why the Hell not! However, I need some software to plan my stops to my destination.

I've tried that Rand McNally Tripmaker, and while its generally good software, I should give some other software a try. This Trip Planner 2002 from National Geographic looks very interesting. If there is anyone who knows North America like the back of their hand, its National Geographic. It's time to load that software on my PC running Windows ME. It comes with the standard features that you would expect from software of this nature. That's not to dismiss it though. Information is very valuable, especially for a road trip. The Guidebook is very valuable indeed, with various hotel and restaurant establishments listed, along with their prices. I really like the maps and general presentation of this software. There is also information about airports and general travel tips for those who don't hit the road or air much, along with may traveling articles of interest. The street maps are very detailed. For pre-Google maps, this is very good. And it runs very good on VirtualBox as well.

VirtualBox is emulating a multimedia gaming PC with a single core allocated to it. The host has a Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core CPU running at 4.2GHz. There is 512MB's of RAM allocated to the VM, along with a VESA 1.2 Compatible display adapter with 3D passthrough acceleration enabled via the SoftGPU drivers. An AMD PCnet NIC is installed, along with an AC'97 audio device, with an Intel 828011AA chipset, enabled. Windows is running at the screen resolution of 800 by 600, 32-bit color depth. Windows ME is installed.
