E. Elgar: Salut d'Amour|Eimi Wakui

Описание к видео E. Elgar: Salut d'Amour|Eimi Wakui

Elgar was from a family background that could not afford to go to music school, so he earned his living by teaching music. It was during this time that he met and fell in love with Catherine Alice Roberts, the daughter of an aristocrat. His family opposed their marriage due to religious and status differences, but they overcame these obstacles and were united. He dedicated this work to her when they were officially engaged, as she believed in his talent and supported him when he was unknown.

Originally titled 'Liebesgruss' in German, the title was changed to French at the publisher's request. In English it is called 'Love's Greeting'.

This piece is one of Elgar's earliest works and has a simple but elegant melody. The structure is very simple, in the form of a three-part form plus coda, beginning in E major and progressing gently through syncopation, with a middle section that turns and develops into G major, and a return of the E major theme again. The coda builds in exuberance and eventually comes to a quiet end.

Originally written as a work for violin and piano, it is available in several versions for piano and cello, solo piano and small orchestra, and in various arrangements. It is one of Elgar's most famous works, used in TV dramas and commercials.
