《Welcome to the Secrets of the Moon》
A unique feature of the moon phase model is how it allows its wearer to know the current location at a glance based on the position of the sun and the shape of the moon. On a clear winter morning, at some point of time, the setting moon and the rising sun are both in the sky at the same time. Looking up at the sky and finding the position of the sun and the shape of the moon as indicated by Campanola Cosmosign’s moon phase model, you truly feel that you are standing in the midst of the universe. Mr. Uehara says, “There is an inseparable connection between time-keeping and astronomy.” This concept led to the creation of the inaugural design of Campanola Cosmosign’s moon phase model named “Moonsign” in 1984. Mr. Oba, who enjoyed a reputation as a young, talented designer during the time, collaborated with Mr. Uehara for this design. Since then, the two of them have collaborated numerous times on the commercial production of various watches.

Mr. Oba says, “When it comes to the design of the moon calendar model of Campanola Cosmosign, designers should not try to meddle with it.” The powerful visual impact of the moon phase panel on the dial has already been perfected in terms of aesthetic design. Its design is the culmination of the painstaking efforts of Mr. Uehara, an enthusiast in astronomy. Therefore, Mr. Oba has largely left the design untouched but worked on proposing color schemes and their adjustments instead. The dial of Campanola Cosmosign’s moon phase panel has 11 displays that track the waxing and waning of the moon. The graphics of the moon accurately portray the position of its craters, such as Tycho and Copernicus. In addition to the two particularly bright stars located farther away than the sun and moon, the watch also tells you the local sidereal times, which will be useful when determining stellar positions.
A person knowledgeable about watch design and also well-versed in astronomy at the same time. It would be rare for such a person to be involved in the design processes of a watch. Mr. Oba says that the creation of Campanola Cosmosign’s moon phase model was a feat that only Mr. Uehara could achieve.

The moon is Earth’s only natural satellite. It is well-known that the gravity of the moon causes the ebb and flow of the tide but the rhythm of the human body is also closely related to the moon’s orbital period. Campanola Cosmosign’s moon calendar model is a wristwatch that allows you to experience the rhythms of the sun and moon, which are intertwined with those of our daily lives.
Citizen Watch created Campanola Cosmosign by making the full use of the expertise of Mr. Uehara, an astronomy enthusiast. Mr. Uehara talks about his strong affinity for Cosmosign, thereby stating that “he wants to make things that only he can make.”

◆Realistic Display of the Lunar Phases on the Dial
