Today, we are discussing a significant moment in the dynamics with a narcissist: when they realize that you have made the final discard and are not coming back. This moment can be intense and unpredictable, and it is essential to understand what it means for both you and the narcissist.

First, let’s clarify what we mean by "final discard." In relationships with narcissists, the term refers to a point at which the victim, often referred to as the "supply," decides to cut ties completely. Typically, narcissists are not the ones who initiate a final discard. Instead, they tend to cling to their sources of validation and support because they fear losing control over them. Narcissists thrive on attention and admiration, and they often create a network of people—what we call a "narcissistic harem." This harem consists of individuals they can turn to whenever they need emotional support or validation, allowing them to avoid facing the consequences of their actions.

Narcissists are often codependent. They rely heavily on their supply to maintain their self-esteem and sense of worth. Because of this dependency, they rarely choose to end relationships themselves. Instead, they prefer to keep their options open, ensuring they always have someone to rely on, even if it means being manipulative or abusive.

Now, when a narcissist realizes that you have taken the step to discard them permanently, it can lead to dramatic and erratic behavior. They often do not expect you to reach a breaking point. Many narcissists lack self-awareness and the ability to foresee the consequences of their actions. While they possess a keen insight into how to manipulate and control others, they often fail to recognize when their behavior has pushed someone too far. They do not anticipate that one day, you might simply become exhausted by their constant emotional turmoil and abuse.

Narcissists often operate under the assumption that you will never tire of being in their presence. Their primary goal is to create a dependency, making you believe that you need them in your life. This manipulation is central to their control, as they thrive on the idea that you cannot function without them.
