"Chyna" Vice Versa (Documentary Review)

This is a review of more than just this documentary. It is a tribute to "The 9th Wonder of the World", Joanie "Chyna" Laurer. A woman who was born destined to reach the hearts of millions of people around the world.

From a very young age, Joanie had to endure the trauma of living in a dysfunctional home. It became an agonizing burden that never truly disappeared even after moving out and living on her own. Haunted by the possibility of ending up a "loser" as mentioned in her autobiography "Chyna: If They Only Knew", Joanie set herself on a mission to find stardom/greatness however possible.

After taking up more than a few jobs (some of which are very admirable), Joanie eventually found herself attending
a wrestling school where she was discovered by a couple of wrestlers from the WWF (now WWE). Once there, Chyna was born; a tall, muscular and strong female superstar who was capable of beating up men in a time where most women in wrestling would serve as eye candy and walk in the shadows of their male counterparts.

While her star power was still in ascension, Chyna went through a tough breakup with her then boyfriend who started dating the daughter of the owner of the WWE. Chyna was not able to cope with that or her parting ways with the company, consequently she walked down an arduous path through the chaos of reality television, drug dependency, pornographic films and it ultimately resulted in her death.

However, Chyna had a spark to her that I know will remain illuminating the hearts of all the people she influenced, me being one of them. It is painful to think that such a bright and talented person had to go through most of their life suffering. Life is a complicated thing.
