Sourdough Inspiration - Orange Bakery

Описание к видео Sourdough Inspiration - Orange Bakery

In the first of our bakery profiles, we sat down with Kitty Tait of The Orange Bakery, situated in a bucolic Oxfordshire town. Kitty and her father setup the bakery in their house and sell from a shop on the high street.
In our sourdough inspirational videos, we look at the stories behind the bakers, and the importance of sourdough itself.

Kitty Tait is the bright young star of sourdough. The 15-year-old started baking with her father Alex just two and a half years ago – at first they used a neighbour’s home oven, creeping in in the early morning to switch it on and coming back after breakfast to bake. As demand for their subscription bread service increased in their Oxfordshire village, they invested in their own Rofco oven, and in May 2019, opened the crowd-funded Orange Bakery (named for Kitty’s vivid dungarees) in Watlington.

In six months' time, they plan to move production to a new space, but for now it is still out of the family home, in an extension made from recycled materials. An engineer in Peterborough gave them an old deck oven, Popham’s bakery gave them a mixer, the tables were a gift, fridges came out of skips, and Hart’s Bakery gave them bannetons. “There is a natural generosity within the baking world, which Vanessa is very much part of,” says Alex. “People want to help each other. We’ve really benefitted from that.”
