What Do Idaho 7 Hops Taste Like - SMASH Beer Experiment

Finally the long awaited Idaho 7 hop in a SMASH beer experiment.

This week we get around to tasting the Idaho 7 hops. This hop has gotten a lot of attention as having great oils for biotransformation as well as wonderful notes of tropical fruits and citrus on its own.

The aroma stood out on this one as quite unique. Its certainly citrusy and maybe a little guava like. However there was also something herbal perhaps ginger like in the aroma that was hard to put a direct descriptor on. Regardless we liked it. The flavor carried through with the same orange and pinapple citrus flavors.

This was a great go around for applying this unique hop to our normal SMASH process. Next time around we may have to do some side by sides with an appropriate yeast strain to drive some biotransformation.
