How To Solo On The (Jazz) Blues with Barry Harris Half Step Rules & Substitutions: Bebop 101 Ep3

Описание к видео How To Solo On The (Jazz) Blues with Barry Harris Half Step Rules & Substitutions: Bebop 101 Ep3

In this episode, we look at some different approaches we can take to practice soloing on a jazz blues in F. If you haven't already, make sure to watch the first 2 episodes so you can learn about (and get plenty of practice using) Barry Harris' rules for adding extra half steps to descending scale lines, as well as his "Family Of 4 Dominants" substitution concept.

Episode 1 (about playing on dominant chords and the family of 4):    • Bebop Improvisation 101: The 2 Concep...
Episode 2 (about playing on tonic major and minor chords):    • How To Solo On The I (or i) Chord Wit...

The obsession with the modes and "Chord-Scale-Theory" which is so prevalent in mainstream jazz education will never get you sounding like you can play authentic bebop, or at least they never did for me, even after many years of study. Barry's ideas, on the other hand, will immediately turn your playing around (they certainly did for me,) and get you improvising authentic, idiomatic bebop lines. Barry's ideas are simple enough to learn the basics of in just a few minutes, but deep enough that you'll be finding new things to play with them for the rest of your life.
