Most people don't exactly associate the PSX with party games, the party system from that era was generally the N64 with its native four controller support. But there were some party games on the PSX that were a lot of fun, like Point Blank and the Bishi Bashi series. The latter probably isn't familiar to most western viewers, as the games were only ever localized in Europe, and even then they cut out the voice acting that makes them so hilarious.

For the uninitiated, Bishi Bashi Special is a collection of crazy Japanese minigames, sort of like Point Blank without the light gun. I played this game a ton with a friend when I was younger, despite their simplicity the games hold up quite well and playing them in a random order is always entertaining.

Bishi Bashi Special 2 contains two separate modes, based on two different arcade games. The first two parts of this video cover Hyper Bishi Bashi, which is predominantly based around three coloured buttons, so you'll notice a red/green/blue motif in a lot of the games. The trick here is remembering which button corresponds to which colour on the PSX controller, but it becomes natural after a while. The third and fourth parts cover Gachaga Champ, which is about some kind of ultimate competition between a boy and a girl. I generally enjoy these minigames more because there's a lot more personality to the animations. They use more traditional controls, too.

I mentioned this before, but the sound effects in this game are hilarious, and it's worth playing the Japanese version for them. The announcer totally sells this game, and the bank of pre-recorded names you can choose is awesome.

"Winnah... Goddohanda!"
