Around autumnal Arundel, West Sussex

Описание к видео Around autumnal Arundel, West Sussex

Join us on a sunny, autumnal walk around the Arundel area in West Sussex. This walk focuses on the surrounding countryside rather than the town itself.

Due to its cinematic nature, this video is best watched on a large screen, such as a TV, to fully appreciate the visual detail and immersive aural experience we try to convey.

Arundel is a historic market town located at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex, approximately 10 miles east of Chichester. It is surrounded by some amazing countryside and is a gateway to the South Downs National Park.

We started our walk in Mill Road in the shadow of the beautiful Arundel castle. There had been many days of significant rainfall in the preceding weeks which had resulted in much of the low-lying area being flooded.

Moving onto Swanbourne Lake, this is a picturesque location at any time of the year, but particularly so in autumn. There was plenty of activity on the lake with Mute Swans, Coots, Moorhens (the usual suspects!) and various ducks. The migrant species had not yet arrived.

A steep climb up the valley at the north end of the lake took us into Arundel Park. The views are always good hear unless it is pouring with rain! The autumnal colours, though not as widespread as in previous years due to the exceptionally wet summer, were still worth the climb; we hope the drone footage does it justice.

At the top of Arundel Park we were able to see the extent of the flooding on the stretch of the River Arun from Offham in the south to Amberley (north).

A long, gradual descent, to the relief of our little dog, of Arundel Park ensued until we reached Hiorne Tower. This 1797 folly was built by Francis Hiorne whilst bidding to rebuild Arundel castle.

We then returned to the town and back to Mill Road. As this video is about the autumn colours there is very little of Arundel town itself; we have made a few other Arundel videos, and have plans for an all-aerial one using footage shot during 2023.
