Audio of the Australian Raven calling

Описание к видео Audio of the Australian Raven calling

Calls are the primary way birdwatchers differentiate one species of corvid from another and the Australian Ravens are one of the easiest to identify in the field as it has long throat hackles that are visible most of the time, particularly when calling, as is demonstrated in this video. Calls vary and are complex within a family group. Sometimes it is just a contact call, a single "aaark". Often a warning call and, according to some websites we have come across, when an Australian Raven flies over another Ravens territory, they give a particular call meaning "... it's cool, just passing through". We can only guess what the raven in this video is trying to say, but from our observations we think it is communicating with its mate, which if you listen carefully you can hear responding a couple of times in the distance. Australian Ravens have white eyes like crows, but European and North American Ravens have black eyes. The name "Australian Raven" is sometimes confusing because people mostly think the word "Australian" is an adjective which describes the Australian Raven, but it is actually the name of this species of ravens. This video was filmed early in the morning, just after sunrise when there was still very little light so the footage is not very crisp, but there was only a slight breeze which is great for recording audio.
