How to Focus in the Age of Distraction

How to focus? We think that the lack of focus is a modern problem. We complain about the rise of social media and distraction it unfolded on us.

But, is this true? When one reads John Cassian's Collationes (written 1600 years ago) one gets a different impression of this. We distracted ourselves with all sorts of things in the past as well, and great minds searched for tips on how to maintain and develop fiery focus.
