Celeste Manno, a bright and promising young woman from Melbourne, Australia, fell victim to a tragic case of obsessive stalking. Born on November 30, 1997, Celeste excelled in her academic and professional life, quickly rising through the ranks at a large e-commerce company. However, her life took a dark turn when an older colleague, Lou Nater, became infatuated with her.

Despite Celeste's polite rejections, Lou's obsession grew, leading to persistent harassment through messages and unwanted advances. Celeste's attempts to seek police protection were initially dismissed, as Lou had not yet committed a physical crime. Eventually, she secured a restraining order, but the harassment continued in more threatening forms.

Lou's obsession culminated in a tragic and violent act on November 16, 2020. Breaking into Celeste's home, Lou brutally attacked her, inflicting fatal stab wounds. Despite forensic evidence and witness testimonies pointing to his guilt, Lou initially denied the charges but was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 36 years in prison.

Celeste's story highlighted significant gaps in the legal system regarding the handling of stalking and harassment cases. Her family’s efforts to pass "Celeste's Law," aimed at criminalizing online stalking and harassment, were met with resistance, leaving a crucial issue largely unaddressed.
