In October 2013, 27-year-old Kelly Dwyer disappeared, causing alarm among her loved ones when she failed to show up for work. Despite attempts to contact her, she remained unreachable, prompting her family to file a missing person's report. An investigation revealed that Kelly had no enemies, and all her belongings were left at home, ruling out the possibility of her running away. Her last known location was at her boyfriend Chris Zach's apartment.

Chris claimed they had an open relationship and that Kelly left his apartment on the morning of October 10th, but CCTV footage showed otherwise. Further investigation uncovered disturbing evidence, including photos and videos of Kelly unconscious and being assaulted by Chris. The footage also suggested that Chris had disposed of Kelly's body, leading detectives to search his apartment and car, where they found signs of foul play.

Chris was arrested for possession of illegal substances and child explicit materials, and later, human remains identified as Kelly's were found in a wooded area. Despite the lack of direct evidence, circumstantial evidence led to Chris being charged with negligent homicide and hiding the body. In December 2018, Chris was sentenced to 31 years in prison, bringing some closure to Kelly's family.
