Hey, everyone. Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 Honda CR-V, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Tekonsha custom fit vehicle wiring harness. Before we do that though, let's take a minute, check it out and make sure it's gonna work for you. So when it comes to the CR-V, you know, it's a pretty popular vehicle, and it's capable, as well. So, a lot of people do a lot of different things with them, which does include pulling some trailers around.

So, if that's what you plan on doing, you're gonna need a way to power up the lights on your trailer. That way, you're not only safe but legal, as well. And that's where a kit like this is gonna come into play. So, when you're ready to use it, how we have it set up on our vehicle today, we actually have it stored on the inside, which, you can route this outside of the vehicle, as well, and mount it up next to your hitch if that's something you wanna do, which I'll talk about that later during the installation. But how ours works being inside here, what you can do is just drape it over your threshold, and you can see, too, got more than enough length there as far as the wiring goes.

So, it shouldn't have any issues reaching your trailer, but we'll kind of just set that over our threshold and close the hatch on it. And it might seem kind of odd doing that, but you're not gonna hurt the wiring. It's set up to be able to handle that and you're not gonna hurt your vehicle either. Just don't get it hung up in the latch mechanism. And now, we're gonna have that 4-way flat style of connector to be able to hook up to our trailer.

And this is a really common type of connector, especially for the types of trailers that the CR-V is likely to be pulling around. And it's gonna provide us with the basic function. So, we'll get our taillight signal, our turn signals, as well as our brake lights. This kit is gonna work with the standard gas models of the CR-V as well as the hybrids like we have here today. So, you should be in pretty good shape there.

And to compare this wiring to the other one, which is made by CURT, they're both good kits. Honestly, I don't really have a preference. You know, they're both gonna get the job done. The Tekonsha, you do have to ground an additional wire out, which really isn't a huge deal, but it is one more step that you have to take over the CURT, which simply just plugs right in to the factory connector. So, it's not a huge deal, but there's a minor difference there. Speaking of the installation though, it's really not too bad. A couple panels you can kind of pop free on the inside, locate that connector plug, plug it in. There's a ground screw next to it. You ground out that wire. That's really about it. What some people run into, and it's really just gonna depend on your vehicle, you might have to put an additional fuse into the fuse block underneath the driver's side of the dashboard. It doesn't come included with that one, so if you need it, you can always check underneath the hood. A lot of times, there'll be spares in that fuse block that you could use. If you'd prefer not to do that, you can always grab a kit from us that'll come with the type of fuse that you need. A couple options as far as that goes. But with that said, if you plan on setting this up yourself, feel free to hang around. We'll go ahead and get started on it now. To begin your installation, you're gonna be here at the back of your CR-V and we need to remove our floor coverings. And so, it definitely helps, as well, if you fold your back seats forward. Gives you a little more room, and depending on your submodel, yours might be set up a little bit different. We have a hybrid and so this floor covering is kinda locked down and I could be mistaken, but I believe the regular gas ones just essentially lift up. But something to keep in mind here, but on our hybrid and on the gas, you're gonna have to remove this threshold. Take this trim tool and just kinda work it underneath here. (tool bumps against car) Work my way down. And our floor covering's actually connected into here. And so, this will allow us, once this is free, (plastic pops) to lift up on it. Can get the threshold out of the way, and then we can slide our floor covering out of position, as well. The factory connector plug we're looking for should be located behind this panel here on the driver's side. So, I'm gonna take a few things apart here. We have this piece. That just unsnaps. And we have this door, as well. Just pop that outta place. F
