NärCon Winter 2023 | Geeks and Nerds and Cosplay

NärCon Winter is a Swedish pop culture convention filled with amazing cosplay, competitions, games, and a lot more. It's a four day geek extravaganza, and in this video I try to show you some highlights from the convention...and I also ask myself the question: what's the difference between a geek and a nerd?

Prepare to meet tons of cosplayers, listen to serious...and not so serious interviews, and get a general overview of what NärCon has to offer. This is the winter edition (NärCon vinter), but there's also a summer edition. The summer event is the biggest gaming and cosplay convention in Scandinavia - but this one also blew me away with the quality and quantity of cosplay.

In this video I also dive into the origin of the word geek, and how it has been transformed throughout the centuries. I contrast that with the word nerd which has a much more modern origin - but possibly an even stranger evolution in how it's been used. And interestingly enough, it seems that not all agree on exactly what a geek or a nerd is...
