The business environment is a very important topic for PMP exam. The business environment covers around 8% of the exam which is almost 12 to 13 questions. The business environment section of the PMP exam focuses on how to adapt projects according to the changing environment and align them with business goals. There are four tasks, as listed below, within the business environment and each task has many “enablers” within it.
1. Plan and manage project compliance
2. Evaluate and deliver project benefits and value
3. Evaluate and address external business environment changes for impact on the scope
4. Support organizational change
Explanation
The business environment is basically about the environment in which the project works and the factors that affect its functioning. These factors may be internal or external. Internal factors includes all the factors that are within the control of the company which includes its policies and procedures, its resources, the corporate culture etc. External factors are factors that exist outside the company’s control which may be TECOP(Technical, Environmental, Commercial, Operational, Political), VUCA(Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) etc. Understanding the business environment is necessary for a project manager to think and make strategic decisions, as per the opportunities and threats, and deliver value to the customer.
